Are you searching for the best fitness apps to help you with your fitness goals?
I’m here to help!
Below I’ve listed some of the best fitness apps I believe are available and that you should be using.
In 2024, there are hundreds of different apps covering all your health needs so it can be hard to know which ones are great and which ones are a waste of time.
Don’t let the endless options overwhelm you, check out my list below.
My Fitness Pal
Price: Free
Premium Options: Yes
Website: www.myfitnesspal.com
My Fitness Pal (MFP) is probably one of the most popular apps available.
The app allows you to keep a food diary and calculate all your macro and micronutrient intake. You no longer need to check the back of food products and calculate how many calories you just ate. The MFP app does it all for you.
The app also offers recipes for you to try when you’re looking for new meal ideas.
Pros:
- The best tool to keep track of what you eat
- Easy to use
Cons:
- A lot of features are on the pro plans
- Some food records may be incorrect
Zero
Price: Free
Premium Options: Yes
Website: www.zerofasting.com
Zero is a fasting app that tracks the times you are fasting and the times you are not.
It’s based on the idea of intermittent fasting.
Fasting is not for everyone, but a lot of people have reported great success. Fasting ultimately means a reduced eating window so most people end up eating less simply because they have less time to eat. If you are someone who fasts, Zero is a great app that is simple and effective.
I use it on a daily basis but I’m less rigid now with my eating windows. Be careful not to become too obsessed with your eating window if you use the app.
Pros:
- Simple interface
- Beautiful design
- Free version is good
Cons:
- Could become obsessive with the timer
Strava
Price: Free
Premium Options: Yes
Website: www.strava.com
If you cycle, swim or run, Strava is a must-use app for you.
Strava is like a social media platform for exercise lovers and lets you connect with people from all over the world.
With Strava, you can join workout challenges with other app users, share photos from your workouts, and even follow your friends’ fitness activities. It also includes the basics like tracking your workout distance, speed, and endurance.
I use the app as a kind of running journal to track my runs and see my mileage. There used to be a lot more features on the free versions until recently, but it’s still worthwhile to use.
Pros:
- Easy to use
- Community of users
Cons:
- No music integration
- Free version lacks a lot of features
Apple Fitness+
Price: No
Cost: £9.99/month
Website: www.apple.com/uk/apple-fitness-plus
Apple Fitness+ is Apple’s fitness service.
They offer 11 workout types including HIIT, Strength, Yoga, and Indoor Cycle with some awesome trainers who provide the training.
They upload new workouts every week and offer workouts that don’t require any equipment.
One downside is you need an Apple Watch to use it and there is no free version.
I also would like to see some live classes eventually where I can compete with others.
Pros:
- Great trainers
- Perfect if you have an Apple Watch
Cons:
- No free version
- No live classes
- You need an Apple Watch

Nike Training Club

Website: www.nike.com/gb/ntc-app
Nike Training Club is a free app that offers nearly 200 different workouts. It’s family-friendly and allows you to do strength, cardio, yoga, and much more without needing to go to the gym or use any equipment.
The app also offers a library of advanced workout videos if you’re aspiring to become a competitive athlete or want to beat your wildest ambitions for your fitness level.
Pros:
- Free to use
- Great workouts
Cons:
- Main focus is on strength training
Strong
Price: Free
Premium Options: Yes
Website: www.strong.app
Forget taking your notebook and pen to the gym anymore.
This is one of the best apps I use when training.
Strong is a beautiful and customisable workout planner that lets you design workouts so you can keep track of your progress and even offers exercise instructions so you can learn. You can use the app to see how well you’re progressing with specific exercises and figure out your 1RM (1 rep max).
There is a paid option, but the free version seems to do the job for most people.
Pros:
- Easy to use
- Beautiful design
- Free version is amazing
Cons:
- Certain exercises are missing
- Can’t share programmes with other users
